Veneer is a thin layer of wood or other material for facing or inlaying on a surface but it also means a superficially pleasing or valuable appearance. Things aren’t always as they seem. That goes without saying. With this piece, I wanted to explore that concept but also flip it. To me, the simple underlay is the beauty of the piece. No matter how you try to dress yourself up, make yourself appear to the outside world, it’s always the purity of who you are that shines through and the most important. Truth, honesty... these virtues ascend any gilded lily. Be true to yourself and the rest will follow. Amplify what is real instead of hiding behind what isn’t and you’ll be surprised at the results.
