THE CITY DIFFERENT Woven Blankets
Need a little more color in your life? Try on this 100 % pure cotton woven blanket for size. You can hang it on a wall, throw it across the back of your sofa or in your car for a charming picnic spread. Each blanket is woven in vibrantly dyed yarn from 195 color combinations with the backing made a mirror image color negative of the front to bring one of Jennifer S. Levine's original paintings to life. The blanket is washed after weaving. The yarn contracts for a firm hold. Then, the piece is finished with a 2 IN fringe to prevent fraying and frame the design. Due to the process, size can vary + / - .5 / 1 IN.
Machine wash in cold water. Mild detergent. Gentle cycle. Do not bleach or wring.
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
THE CITY DIFFERENT: Acrylic on canvas, 40 x 30 IN.
I had never been to Santa Fe until a couple years ago. I immediately fell in love with it and have now been back several times. I’m not sure what it is about that town. It’s got this mystique for folks and that’s not just because it’s in the state known as “the Land of Enchantment”.
It’s been a Mecca for artists, tourists and green chili lovers since the dawn of forever. It’s the 3rd oldest city in the country and has such a rich, colorful history. It was the colors that I brought home in my mind’s eye which inspired this piece, also the pueblos with their simple styles, the gorgeous turquoise jewelry and geometric patterns of the native textiles.
So, this is a postcard of love to that fair place, known as The City Different because of all the different cultures which are its makeup: Native Americans, Spaniards, Mexicans, and Anglos. For me, it’ll always be a jewel, hence the jewel tones which memory painted this canvas.
