ABOUT THE PAINTING:

RENOIR’S PEACHES: Acrylic on canvas, 30 x 48 IN.

When people ask me where my love for art began, I always cite my first after school art class in 5th grade. It was during that time that I was introduced to the Impressionists and my forever favorite artist, Renoir. You may be asking, “Do what?” Yep, you read right, my first and continued influence for my work is Pierre-Auguste Renoir. I understand how this may be confusing with my body of work primarily being nonobjective so I decided to take my style and underscore his influence.

This piece is called “Renoir’s Peaches” because it is based off a still life that he painted. Each color and stroke of this piece is a bit of his palette in that painting. Also, it being a still life on a table, I incorporated my mother’s doilies that she used for holiday desert plates. Her encouragement of my work exemplified by Renoir as well, which not many people know. To this day, I have hanging in my bedroom a print, beautifully matted and framed, of Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party”. What people can’t see is that on the back of that piece is a note written in marker from my parents, memorializing my 13th birthday that reads “To our little ‘Renoir’, love mom and dad.”
