BURGEON Journals
Maybe it's time we send a note to our future selves, live in a little quiet space to sort through things. We Fancy journals are here to fill that need as we travel through journeys or just our heads. Pick from one of Jennifer S. Levine's featured paintings for a cover then choose from either ruled line or blank pages. Each journal is a portable 5 x 7 IN, comes with a high-quality, matte laminated wrap-print cover and 128 sheets of 90gsm quality paper. We'd say that makes it just write!
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
BURGEON: Acrylic on canvas, diameter 16 IN.
When I think of burgeon, I think of blooming and wild spring days ready to pop with flowers, like fireworks shooting across rolling meadows and waves of hills. Classically, burgeon just means to begin to grow or increase rapidly.
This piece was meant to represent all those flowers of Spring in one, big blossom. I wanted it to emulate the new beginning I was starting at the time. I was full of hope and dreams, ready to feel my bloom again. For those reasons, I approached this round canvas with a bit of ritual. I wanted every color of the rainbow to be in its foundation, like one would view every opportunity when one starts on a new journey. So, that’s what I did. I painted the entire piece in one color then slowly, meticulously cut in towards the center. For each color, I’d mask out a couple strips of thin tape, then the entire canvas would be covered in a new color again and again a couple more niches would be taped off over that already laid. Soft angles began to form the as I continued towards the middle. This not only gave an interesting physical texture to it, like delicate petals, it also gave the piece more depth and movement with the fractured highlights and lowlights of the underpainting swirling around… still look at this piece, thinking I see it breathing because it’s just so vibrant and was a joy to create.
