A RAWK'N TIME at One of Denver's Most Icon Venues, Lion's Lair

August started out HAWT with First Friday in the legendary Santa Fe Arts District, then it kept going...

Jennifer S. Levine was invited to create one of her community-building, interactive paintings at Tony Meggitt's 30th anniversary celebration of being a part of and owning one of Denver's cultural hubs for live music. Established as the music venue now known as the Lion's Lair in 1976, most of Denver's hottest acts had their start on that stage and national acts can trace their roots with a tour or two through that door. In honor of the rich history and to capture the night for posterity, the owner commisioned this live art setup to have a freeze-frame of the creative energy the place represents.

Along with the live art, the night encapsulated that rich musical heritage with 15 acts from bluesy guitars to full-gutteral rock ballads to groove'n reggae melodies and comedic breaks. Performers and audience, one and all, participated in the painting with Levine organizing the color scheme, layout, masking, theme and grabbing all the folks throughout the night to get involved. At the end of the day, the piece was a perfect capture of the rich creative culture that is Lion's Lair. It was the perfect way to commeorate the hallmark occassion!
